According to Walt Disney, "if you can dream it, you can do it." That's how Disney turned a cute little mouse named Mickey into an icon that became famous around the world. Dreams are about possibilities. Martin Luther King had a dream where he envisioned a country filled with freedom for all its citizens regardless of ethnicity or religious beliefs. He started a freedom movement that continues to live on even after his life was taken. Dreams are about possibilities. Although the summer Olympics are over we saw athletes from around the world pursuing their dreams of becoming the best in their field. We watched the events and listened to the personal stories of the competitors unfold. We were privileged to hear what many of them endured to participate in the Olympics. Dreams are about possibilities. Someone once said, "follow your dreams, for as you dream you shall become." So what is your dream? What is it that inspires you to create possibilities in your life? These questions are very personal in nature. Our dreams are what fill us with hope, purpose and meaning. What does it take to turn your dreams into possibilities? First, make that dream vivid in your mind. You need to be able to feel it, see it, touch it, hear it and smell it. Use your senses to give life to your dream. It must be real in your mind. Second, do some long range planning. It takes time to become the best at what you do. Have a five-year plan, a ten-year plan, a fifteen year plan and beyond. Know that you are in it for the long haul. Overnight success isn't the norm. . Third, do some short range planning. Create milestones to monitor your progress. Decide what you can do on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to achieve your dream. The actions you take on a continuous basis will propel you closer to your dream. You want to be taking the right actions. Fourth, keep yourself moving forward. It's the forward motion of putting one foot in front of the other that helps you stay on track. Avoid the pull of taking those enticing side steps. Just remember the story of the tortoise and the hare. Fifth, read books or listen to tapes to inspire you. A small dose of inspiration can have a large impact on your attitude. Successful people tell us it's the space between our ears that really counts. Sixth, hang out with people who support you in your quest. Nay sayers take a toll on your energy. You want feedback that will help you, not drain you. Seventh, believe in yourself. One of the biggest obstacles we all face at some point in time is self-doubt. Using positive self talk will help you conquer all those little negative messages that fill your head with self-doubt. You want to be in a positive mental zone so you can stretch to touch your dream. You've got to stand tall and reach high because your dream is much bigger than you are. Don't let it slip away. These seven steps are a blueprint you can follow to help make your dreams come true when you question what you are doing or why you are doing it. Thousands of others have turned the ordinary into the extraordinary using this blueprint. So can you. It's possible! "I dream of things that never were, and ask why not." "Dreams are the touchstone of our character." "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of the dream." Here's the great challenge of life - You can have more than you've got because you can become more than you are. I have found that income seldom will exceed your own personal development. Once in a while income takes a lucky jump, but unless you grow out to where it is it will go back to where you are. Somebody once said if you took all the money in the world and divided it among everyone equally, it would soon be back in the same pockets. However, you can have more because you can become more. You see, here is how the other side of the coin reads - unless you change how you are, you will always have what you've got. The marketing plan won't do it. It's a good plan but it won't work without you. You've got to work it. It is the human effort that counts. If you could send a sales manual out to recruit - wouldn't that be lovely? The major thing that makes the difference is what YOU do. In order to have more, you need to become more. The guy says "If I had a good job I would really pour it on, but I have this lousy job so I just goof off." If that is your philosophy you are destined to stay there. Some people say if I had a lot of money I would be really generous, but I don't have much so I'm not generous. See, you've got to change that philosophy or you will never have "the lots of money". Unless YOU change, IT won't change. Amazingly, however, when we throw out our blame list and start becoming more ourselves - the difference is everything else will begin to change around us.
